Last week, when Jerry (a friend from Malaysia) was in Beijing, we went to visit the the Great Wall at Simatai. We had high hopes for Simatai because from what we heard, it was the more "adventurous" part of the wall and had something called the "Stairway to Heaven" which connects to a sky bridge which was supposedly beautiful and something not to be missed.
After a 3 hour bus ride from Qian Men we arrived and for the sake of saving time we took the cable car and mini train to the 8th tower directly. Not exactly directly, because we need to walk atleast for 5 minutes from the mini train to the 8th tower. And why save time? Because we were only given 3 hours to explore the place and the busy will leave whether or not everyone is there!!!. To our dismay we arrived at the 12th tower and found that we could not proceed. The rest of the way till to the 16th tower was closed for renovation and was deemed too dangerous. We tried to bribe the guard to bring us up but he was a bit too expensive for our pockets. So we walked all the way back to the 1st tower and enjoyed the scenic views of Simatai. We could feel the age of the tower at 500 years old (partly because it is really falling apart) and its definitely a nice but tiring experience for me since its my first time there.
Finally, I would like to declare that I am a Hao Han because I've been to both the Hwang He (Yellow River) and The Great Wall. Woohoo!
