We were split into 2 groups from the start. One group taking a flight and another taking a train, both going from Beijing to Hefei. I was in the group that took the flight. In retrospect, I think it would have been better to take the train from Beijing to Huangshan directly, 19 hours. I say this because our flight from Beijing to Hefei was a bit late and the bus from Hefei to Huangshan was at least 5 hours and not 3 hours that we expected.
Anyway, it was all worth it because the views in Huangshan are stunning. For me being in Huangshan seemed surreal. I can't imagine being in such a beautiful place, its was breathtaking.
We stayed over at Huangshan for a night. I would have loved to stay in Huangshan a little longer, there was so much to see, but we had to move on to the next part of our trip which was Qiandaohu. We took the advice of the guy who worked at the Yunhailou, which we stayed the day before we climbed Huangshan, to just take a ferry across part of the Qiandaohu and not actually go into the Qiandaohu scenic area, which is more touristy. I think he gave us a really good advice and we managed to see real life around the lake.
To get to Shanghai from Qiandaohu, we first took a bus to Hangzhou and then another bus to Shanghai mainly because we didn't manage to get train tickets in time when we arrived in Hangzhou. So, if you're in Qiandaohu (we had lots of fun for RMB1 at Chun'an) and thinking of getting to Shanghai, take a direct bus unless you want to have a peek at Hangzhou, which I thought was a beautiful city.
We were able to see the beauty of Shanghai by day and by night before we left for Tianjin and eventually arriving home in Beijing.
